Ravenna
The port of Ravenna is an infrastructure located along the entire state-owned area of the Candiano Canal, including the breakwaters and part of the Piomboni valley. The port of Ravenna consists of the complex of productive and commercial areas facing the Candiano Canal, a navigable waterway that runs for about 11 km from the built-up area to the sea.
The docking docks at - 9.40 m run for a total of 8 km. Of these, 2.5 km consist of a complex of three docks side by side ("Darsena San Vitale"). The port areas cover 2,080 hectares. Storage yards occupy more than 887,300 m², container and rolling stock yards 415,000 m². Bulk warehouses have the capacity of 1,772,900 m3. There are 217 storage tanks for petroleum liquids, 115 for chemicals, 88 for foodstuffs and 34 for miscellaneous uses.
The docks, equipped with the latest technology, specialize in loading and unloading containers, lumber, metallurgical products, bulk and other types of goods. Advanced computer systems control all loading/unloading, handling and storage operations. The storage yards are served by railroad tracks.
The origins of Porto Corsini date back to the first half of the 18th century. It was born as the city's port to replace the ancient port of call that existed at the mouth of the Panfilio (or Pamfilio) canal, located a few kilometers southeast of the city (the only vestige of the Candiano port visible today is the "Torraccia," a watch and watch tower). Around 1737 the Panfilio was chosen as the new bed of the United Rivers. On the waterway, in fact, the Ronco and Montone rivers were artificially merged. The old canal port was abandoned.
