Trieste

he Port of Trieste is a port located in the Gulf of Trieste, in the Upper Adriatic city of the same name. First in terms of cargo traffic in Italy with 62 million tons per year of which 75 percent were petroleum products in 2017, it turns out to be the main oil port in the Mediterranean.

In the area of ferries, the Port of Trieste has the largest highway of the sea between Turkey and Europe operated by ten ferries of the U.N. Ro-Ro company, which also owns 60 percent of the shares in Samer Seaports & Terminals, the company that operates the terminal where the ferries linking the Julian port to those in Istanbul and Mersin dock. In contrast, three other Ekol Logistik ferries connecting Trieste to Haydarpasa (Istanbul) depart from Pier VI.

The port of Trieste also has a modern passenger terminal that has more than doubled its traffic between 2010 and 2013, and as part of the decrease in the passage of large ships to Venice, it offers itself to cruise lines as a passenger port of reference for the Upper Adriatic with both land and sea connections to the lagoon city. Since 2014, the port of Trieste has also been the subject of increasing interest and investment by the Chinese government and several companies based in the People's Republic, which have seen it as an important port of call in the context of the great New Silk Road infrastructure connectivity project.
